10/28

We have many members suggest to have a 168 golf trip this winter. This is at earliy planning stage. Please offer your suggestions in the following reply

11/09

Since 168 members will have different schedule and preference, it will be difficult to find one single time and place to meet everybody's situation for our winter games. We propose to have multiple mini trips, easier to prepare, and easier to manage. We need volunteers to sponsor those mini trips. If we have enough people sign up, we will go.

Charles is very enthusiastic to volunteer to sponsor the first trip(see below, Charles, a rough cost estimate will be helpful at this point). Orlando will be the next one, most likely in Jan. 07. Since December 1-3 is very close, whether you can go or not, please response ASAP to this email or on our website.

Maybe, Naples, FL is a good place to consider. Jan./Feb. could be a good timing

All,

I suggest taking a trip to Myrtle Beach in one weekend of December. It is about seven hours of drive and there are over 200 golf courses to choice from. I can reserve one cottage with my timeshare at Fairfield Resorts which may be able to pack 8 players. I did last year and it turned out to be a pretty good trip.

If we are going to schedule a winter trip in December to Myrtle Beach as I suggested in my previous email we need to make reservation at least one month before the departure date. It might be too late to make reservation after the season end dinner on 11/20.

what is the temperature by the end of Dec. there, is it warm enough?

If we decide to go to Myrtle Beach for a weekend in December it should be the first weekend (12/2-3), second weekend (12/9-10) or the third weekend (12/16-7). After that, it will be Christmas and New Year weekends. Unless a very bad weather hits at that time temperature in the first half of December should be around 10 degrees higher than the temperature in the DC area. I did a little research on Internet as follows:

Dec. 2/3: Average 59/39

Dec. 9/10: Average 58/40

Dec. 16/17: Average 55/37

Dec. 2/3, 2005: 54/35 and 61/32

Dec. 9/10, 2005: 63/36 and 55/33

Dec. 16/17, 2005: 57/36 and 50/35

James,

I have made a reservation at Fairfield Resorts Villa at Myrtle Beach from 12/1 to 12/3 for three nights. The Villa can hold up to 10 people. Please post on website to see how many people want to sign up. If we have more than 10 people I may be able to get another Villa.

Sincerely,

Charles C. Chen

How about Pinehurst? See package information at:

http://www.pinehurst.com/golf_vacation_packages.asp?package=99&name=#package_99

It is 5 hours of drive from DC. It is warmer and has
many good courses.

Any tentative dates for winter golf outing? Myrtle Beach sounds like
the logical place.

A few notes about the Myrtle Beach Trip on 12/1-3:

1. Costs: I will pay for the hotel/villa. Each player's cost will be green fee, shared gas, and food. Green fee should be around $50 per round.

2. Date and schedule: I understand that USCGA has a dinner being scheduled on Friday, December 1. To accommodate that I may be able to move the trip one day later to 12/2-4. If that's the case the departure date would be Saturday and it should be much less traffic. The plan is to depart DC area in the morning on Saturday and we should arrive Mrytle Beach in the afternoon or evening. We can do some shopping and sightseeing, play some poker at night. We should be able to play 18 to 27 holes each day on Sunday and Monday, and 18 holes on Tuesday before we head back to DC.

4. Cancellation: I have not seen anyone signs up yet. If nobody signs up I can cancel the reservation by 11/17/06 without penalty. Please give me feedback.

Sorry guys, before anyone signs up for the trip to Myrtle Beach I may have to cancel the trip myself. My wife has decided to go to Taiwan for three weeks and will not be returning home until Dec. 15. I need to stay home with the kid. If there are players showing interest I can reschedule the trip to 12/16-18/06.
